PRIEST

The priest is the master of healing and preservation, restoring his wounded allies, shielding them in battle and even resurrecting his fallen comrades from death. While he has a variety of protective and enhancement spells to bolster his allies, the priest can also wreak terrible vengeance on his enemies, using the grand powers of the Holy Light to smite and purge them or the devastating powers of the Shadow to decimate their minds. The priest is a diverse and powerful class, highly desirable in any group and capable of fulfilling multiple roles.

The priest is perhaps the best healing class in the game with a surprisingly strong damage potential as well (should the player choose to enhance this aspect of the class). Their ability to heal and buff allies, avoid aggro, dispel buffs on enemies, dispel debuffs on their allies, and resurrect fallen comrades makes them an important member of any group, whether it's PvP or PvE.

MAGE

The mage is a caster that specializes in burst damage and area of effect spells. His primary role in a group at lower levels is damage dealing and crowd control through the use of Polymorph, temporarily changing humanoidsand beasts into harmless critters. At end-game levels, the role of the mage expands into utility, as many encounters in the game are difficult to finish without Counterspell, Remove Curse, and Spellsteal. The mages' utility spells also include conjuring food and drink and the ability to teleport to major cities and open portals for party members. In PvP combat, the mage deals ranged damage while using escape skills to avoid taking damage during combat. His primary stats are intellect, stamina, spell power, spell crit, spell hit rating and spell haste (the order of importance varies with the player's role).

Weapons, Gear, and Armor

When first created, a mage is only able to wield staves and wands; one can later learn how to use daggers and one-handed swords from weapon masters in Stormwind, Darnassus and the Exodar for the Alliance, Undercity and Silvermoon for the Horde. Wands go in the ranged slot and have the autoshoot ability, and do not require any form of ammunition. A mage can only wear cloth armor.

Magi typically should seek items that have spell power to help maximize damage. Intellect is a major stat that players should attempt to gear for, since mana is required for all spells. Spell hit and Spell crit are useful as players move towards the endgame. Spirit is also useful in endgame raiding, but situationally; typically it's more useful for Arcane magi as it scales with intellect, giving more mana regen per point of spirit the higher the player's intellect is. Combine the unusually high amount of intellectan Arcane mage is likely to have, and the 80% of mana regen an Arcane mage can have (through talents, mage armor and glyphs). This will help greatly in endgame raiding for mana management. A reasonable amount of Stamina is also advised.

PALADIN

The paladin is a hybrid class with the ability to play a variety of different roles — including healing, tanking, and DPS. They have auras and blessings that provide useful buffs for other players while withstanding heavy physical damage with plate armor and strong defensive abilities. Paladins are also considered to be holy knights^[1] or blood knights.

Human paladin

From the start, paladins can wear cloth, leather, or mail armor, and can train to wear plate armor at level 40. They may use a shield. They can summon their own Warhorse at level 30. They can quest for an epic Charger at level 60. They can use the following melee weapons:

Paladins cannot dual wield. They also cannot use ranged weapons. In lieu of a ranged weapon slot, paladins receive a Libram (relic)slot. For ranged damage, a paladin has several limited options. Due to cooldowns, these are more useful for pulling than actual damage.

With Patch 3.0.8, paladins received 30 yard taunt that does minor holy damage, named Hand of Reckoning. Retribution paladins used to have no way to pull targets from 30 yards before this spell was introduced, with the exception of Exorcism on undead or demon targets.
With Patch 3.1.0, Exorcism is no longer limited to undead or demon targets.
Spending Talent Points in the Holy tree to acquire the spell Holy Shock.
Spending talent points in the Protection tree to acquire Avenger's Shield .
Using Hammer of Wrath on an enemy with less than 20% of their health left.
Using Exorcism on undead or demons.
Using Judgement in combination with a seal (see below) allows for a limited range attack. Spending Talent Points in the Holy Tree will greatly improve the range of Judgement.

Class: Rouge

ROGUE

Rogues are World of Warcraft's premiere melee damage dealer and especially effective in PvP. They have access to a wide range of special abilities, which depend on their constantly refilling pool of energy. Unlike other classes, such as the Hunter who has the ability to deal physical damage from a distance, Rogues must be in close.

The primary Rogue class advantage is their ability to stealth, preventing other players from seeing them unless the Rogue is very close and in a 180 degree arc in front of them or much lower level.

The primary Rogue attribute is agility. For PvP Rogues, stamina is needed for staying alive. For a rogue, agility is always preferable to strength. A rogue uses no mana, so intelligence and spirit are nearly useless. Spirit also contributes to health restoration, but even with spirit, you won't want to rely on just normal healing. Whichever method you use, food, bandages, potions, or a healer makes having a lot of spirit unnecessary.

WEAPONS

Although rogues excel at melee combat, they may only learn to use four types of melee weapons: daggers, fist weapons, one-handed maces and one-handed swords. For ranged weapons, rogues may learn to use bows, crossbows, guns and throwing weapons.

ABILITIES

Stealth

Stealth is the first major class ability a rogue can get. Rogues have the ability to stealth and become essentially invisible to their level and lower, while moving at slower speed. Stealthed rogues are detectable at close range, though will remain stealthed and appear translucent. Be aware that higher level characters and mobs can more easily see through your stealth, and it does not take many levels to make your stealth worthless.

Many rogue abilities require stealth, and others require being behind the target, which is often achievable (while solo) only in stealth. Other rogue abilities, notably Sprint and Distract, interact well with stealth, although some actions, like lockpicking, will break stealth.

Stealth opens up a range of tactics and roles for rogues. Groups often rely on a rogue's stealth ability to scout dungeons, and to useSap for added crowd control. In PvP, stealth combined with burst damage gives an element of surprise that can be especially effective against cloth-wearers.

Stealth can be improved through talents, items, and enchantments, both to decrease the chance of being detected, and to increase movement speed.

Dual wield

A rogue can learn to dual wield at level 10. Dual wielding is a trade-off with an increased chance to miss with each weapon and reduced damage on the off-hand, but it is a good ability for a rogue. A rogue cannot use a two-handed weapon (which have bigger stat buffs), cannot carry a shield, and has few good offhand choices (offhand items tend to all have caster stats). A second wielded weapon is the only way to reliably get two hands worth of rogue stat buffs.

Roughly, with no tweaking, dual wield grants .81 + (.5 x .81) = 1.215 damage.

The first tier rogue talent, Dual Wield Specialization removes the off-hand damage penalty in increments of 10%.

With Dual Wield Specialization maxed, dual wield grants 2 x .81 = 1.62 damage.

Real results, with a weapon chosen for good benefits, will be better.

Bottom line is, in spite of the to-hit penalty, as a rogue you will want to dual wield.

Poisons

The Alliance's poison quest can be obtained at level 20 in Westfall from Agent Kearnen called [24] Klaven's Tower; if you drop by S1:7 in Stormwind, Master Mathias will send you to Kearnen when the time is right by giving you the [20] Mathias and the Defias quest.
The Horde's version is in Orgrimmar from Shenthul called [20] Deep Cover; which sends you to The Barrens to talk to Taskmaster Fizzule for a quest called [24] Mission: Possible But Not Probable.

The poisons skills allows the Rogue to use poisons, which can then be applied to their weapons. Poisons generally either cause damage to the target (either instantly or as damage over time) or cause other effects (slowing the target, removing the effectiveness of healing on the target, etc.). The ability to use each type of poison and level of the type of poison is a separate rogue skill. Different weapons can have different poisons applied, and faster weapons cause the poison to proc more often.

Poisons are a temporary weapon buff, and as such do not stack with other enhancements such as sharpening stones or buffs from shaman totems.

All poisons have a timer, which formerly lasted 30 minutes but as of patch 2.3 was raised to 60 minutes. As of patch 2.1.0 a Rogue's poisons no longer have multiple charges; each now has one charge and stacks up to 20 units. The poison timer is displayed on the weapons properties when you mouse over the weapon. As of patch 1.10 applying poison will not break stealth or shadowmeld; previously to this, applying poisons would break these states. As of Patch 2.0.1, poisons remain on weapons through zoning between continents or into instances.

A variety of talents in the Assassination skill tree enhance the use of poisons. Wearing three or more pieces of the Bloodfang Armor set increases the chance to apply poisons by 5%.

Prior to the 3.0.2 patch and Wrath of the Lich King, the Poisons skill, the ability to brew poisons from ingredients, was a secondary skill, similar to Cooking or First Aid, but available only to Rogues. As of the 3.0.2 patch and Wrath of the Lich King, the Poisons skill is no longer available in the game. Poisons may still be used by rogues, but are no longer brewed. Poisons can now be purchased from any Poison Vendor or Shady Dealer. Different ranks of Mind-numbing Poison have also been removed as of this patch.

Stuns, incapacitates, and/or disorients

Cheap Shot

Stuns a target for 4 seconds and awards 2 combo points for use on a finishing move. This is a very useful opener that requiresstealth and usually allows the Rogue to get 1 or 2 instant attacks off in addition to auto-attacks before an opponent can recover.

Kidney Shot

Kidney shot is an excellent finishing move which stuns for up to 6 seconds depending on skill rank and number of combo points. It can keep a PvP opponent stunned long enough for you to kill them (especially if you master stun-locking). But in PvE it's also a great ability to help keep your group mates alive or to interrupt a spell being cast.

Gouge

Gouge is not a stun, but is a very important skill that incapacitates your target. This is used frequently to stall an opponent allowing you time to regenerate energy and get behind your opponent to allow a backstab. Since it is considered an incapacitating effect, any damage caused afterwards breaks the gouge. This ability turns off auto-attack when used. Also, speccing in Improved Gouge will add .5 seconds per point up to a maximum of 1.5 seconds to your gouge. This adds just enough time for you to gouge someone and get out of combat to restealth.

Blind

Disorients an opponent for 10 seconds, making them unable to act. More than enough time to bandage and restealth in pvp. Any damage will remove the blind effect.

Sap.

Sap is one of the most underused rogue abilities. This move must be performed while stealthed and your opponent cannot be in combat. However sapping will allow you 10 seconds of freedom. Feel free to use this to bandage AND return back to stealth. Please note that sap and gouge do share the same diminishing return timer.

Class: Hunter

HUNTERS

The hunter class performs pulling, threat redirection, crowd control, and primarily ranged damage. Hunters havepets that add to their DPS and help manage aggro. They can also track, tame and train animals and beasts found in the wild. The well trained pet, on countless occasions, has saved a hunter's life. It has been said by many, and throughout history, that hunters consider their weapons and pets to be their only true friends.

HUNTER ADVANTAGES

Hunters tame the wild beasts of Azeroth,Outland and Northrend, training them to fight at their side. Hunters, along with warlocks (summonable demonic minions),mages (Summon Water Elemental talent), druids (Force of Nature talent), shamans (elemental summoning totems and Spirit Wolf talent), death knights (ghouls) andpriests (Shadowfiend) make up the seven classes that can have combat pets. Hunters, however, are the only ones that can name and feed their pets; warlock pets are automatically given names when they are initially summoned and their damage is unaffected by "happiness".
Hunters excel in outdoor survival skills, such as tracking and laying traps.
Hunters wear leather and cloth armor until level 40, at which they gain access to equipping mail armor. Most hunters start with an axe or dagger and a gun, crossbow, or bow. With training, they can learn all other weapon skills except wands, maces, and two-handed maces. They are unable to use shields or plate armor.
Hunters have many magical abilities that require mana, such as pet healing and special shots, but their mana pools are not as large as those of dedicated spellcasters.
Hunters can take on various Animal Aspects that grant special abilities, such as increased dodge rating, improved run speed, or even additional nature resistance.

ARMOUR AND WEAPONS

-Hunters can use Cloth Armor and Leather Armor initially. At level 40 they can train to use Mail Armor. See hunter sets for a list of hunter armor sets.

-Hunters are capable of learning how to use bows, guns, crossbows, thrown weapons, daggers, axes, Fist Weapons, swords, polearms, staves, two-handed axes, and two-handed swords. The only weapons they cannot use are wands and one-handed and two-handed maces.

Note: the inability of hunters to use maces makes the dwarf's Mace Specialization racial trait useless for dwarven hunters.

Upon reaching level 20, hunters can learn the Dual Wield skill. This allows them to wield two one-handed weapons at the same time.

TALENTS

Talents are a way to specialize your character by enhancing your skills and/or learning new skills. Starting at level 10, you will receive a talent point every time you gain a level.

Class: Warrior

WARRIOR

Warriors are the premiere melee tanking class in World of Warcraft. Unlike other melee classes, such as the rogue (energy), warrior abilities depend on their rage. Rage is generated through damage being dealt by (or to) the warrior, and is capped at 100. Warriors also have many abilities that increase rage generated by different means.

Warriors have the ability to select from three combat stances, Battle Stance, Defensive Stance, and Berserker Stance. Warriors can wear any type of armor (Plate armor becomes available at level 40), are able to use shields, and can wield any weapon with the exception of wands, idols, sigils, totems, and librams.

ABILITIES

The warrior has various abilities, which are typically limited to certain stances.

In Defensive Stance, the warrior can use abilities such as Revenge and Taunt. These abilities are useful for keeping aggro.
In Battle Stance, the warrior can use a balanced array of abilities. Mocking Blow temporarily redirects threat to the Warrior, while Overpower and Retaliation are useful for dealing damage. Some abilities usable in Defensive and Berserker Stances are also usable in Battle Stance.
In Berserker Stance, the warrior is focused on maximizing damage potential with abilities such as Berserker Rage and Recklessness.

STANCES

The warrior has different stances for different situations. Which stance to use will also be determined by the warrior's talents.

Battle Stance: The standard starting stance for all Warriors. A balance of offensive and defensive abilities. (-20% ThreatGenerated) and as of 3.1 now also increases Armor Penetration by 10%.
Defensive Stance: As it suggests, more defensive oriented and fewer offensive damaging moves. Best used when playing in the main tank role (-10% Damage Received, -5% Damage Inflicted, +45% Threat Generated).
Berserker Stance: All out attack with little regard to the Warrior's own health. Best used when somebody else is tanking and you need full-on DPS (+3% Crit, +5% Damage Received, -20% threat Generated).

Some warrior abilities are not available based on which stance you are in, so choose wisely! Remember that your rage is reduced to 10 whenever switching stances unless you have Tactical Mastery.

Class: Druid

DRUID: (Night Elves, Tauren)
The druid is a shapeshifting hybrid class, and is also one of the most versatile classes in the game. As with every other hybrid, druids need to specialize to be effective in any role. Due to their need to shapeshift to fulfill roles, they can only perform one role at a time. Druids must switch between the different shapes in order to adapt to situations as they come. Druids can serve as 3 different types of character (DPS, Tank, or Healer). They are a jack of all trades but a master of none, when fighting in groups.

SHAPESHIFTING
Bear Form: Level 10
Aquatic Form: Level 14
Cat Form: Level 20
Travel Form: Level 30
Dire Bear Form: Level 40
Moonkin Form: Level 40
Flight Form: Level 63

ARMOUR AND WEAPONS
Druids are able to wear cloth and leather armor only. Druids start out with different weapons depending on race; night elves begin knowing staves and daggers, while tauren begin with staves and one handed maces. Beyond that, druids can learn to fight with:
Staff
One-handed Mace
Two-handed Mace
Dagger
Fist weapon
Polearm
Druids cannot use shields (but in bear form their armor is as high as though they had one), and they cannot dual wield. "Held in off-hand" items can still be used. This leads to druids using either a two-handed weapon, or a 1H + off-hand item.

TALENTS

Druid talents are split into three categories:

Balance - Focus on Damage Spells to make the druid an efficient caster damage dealer.
Feral Combat - Focus on using the druid forms (Cat Form, Bear Form, Dire Bear Form) in the aspects of tanking (Bear/Dire Bear Form) and melee damage dealing (Cat Form).
Restoration - Focus on Healing Spells to make the druid an efficient healer.

It is important to note that each druid talent tree contains some talents which are actually useful if specializing in one of the other trees. For example, some Feral Combat talents modify maximum mana, some Balance talents modify cost of healing spells, while others are helpful for the feral forms. Finally, some Restoration talents give the druid rage/energy when he switches into either Cat or Bear Form.

Tips for the Beginner to make Money

Tips for those who are new to the game.

Money is used in World of Warcraft for a variety of purposes. You need it to upgrade your class and profession skills, you can use it to buy consumables, equipment, ingredients and recipes from vendors and at the Auction House (sometimes abbreviated AH in this guide), and it comes in handy when you need to get from place to place on the animal airlines (Flight Paths). The number one thing that most players want money for is to get a mount at level 40, some classes will have mounts available at level 30.

Saving
The most important step in saving for a mount should be self-evident: saving, don't spend your gold or other coin on useless things. Spend only what you need, don't go buying cheese in Stormwind when you aren't hungry *laughs*. You can burn through thousands of gold before level forty if you visit the auction house for new equipment at every opportunity. The improper use of your production trade skills can cost a small fortune. Before engaging in a crafting profession under level 40, read a suitable leveling guide in order to gain whatever skill level you desire for the least amount of money. Keep in mind that, typically, equipment you produce will be slightly worse than equipment otherwise obtainable at your level.

Equipment
The most important part of saving is to never buy equipment unless you're positive that it will increase your earning potential. Make sure you loot everything you kill, take everything that is useful to someone. This could be as simple as Linen cloth, enough of it will add up when you sell it. (just dont pick up things like fangs and pelts [unless you are in skinning profession] or as otherwise needed. A common mistake is to invest in headgear and neckwear at the earliest available levels. While it might seem foolish to leave an available slot empty, you will eventually find something to fill it. In the mean time, the 1 or more you save will serve you well. The only equipment purchases that can be justified at times are weapons. Since an improved weapon can greatly increase the speed at which you kill enemies and thus gain their loot, weapons are often a worthwhile pickup. Still, try to find deals. Look several levels above and below your own for bargains. Don't buy weapons that you won't hold onto for at least 5 levels. It should go without saying that you should never purchase any equipment from vendors; always use the auction house. And don't always use the buyout. Some of the best deals come from bidding.

Two best ways to get good equipment for your level:

1. Finding quests with rewards that will be useful to you. If you can get yourself in a good guild, or team up with some higher level players in group quests, you can often get higher level quest equipment that you couldn't get on your own.
2. Use the Looking for Group interface, or join a good guild, and do instances that are around your level. You'll learn valuable grouping skills, and the level of loot in an instance is typically much better than what you could find on your own. If possible, concentrate on instances with humanoid mobs, since cloth is one of the best trade resources. I find it a good idea to add those players who are capable and friendly in instances to my friends list, and to do more instances with them as you level up together.

Training
There are a lot of skills and spells you can train as you progress, and not all of them are useful. As a mage, do you really think you need to invest 88 20 into the first two ranks of Amplify Magic? Are you still using Heroic Strike at level 32 as a warrior? Think long and hard about how valuable each skill is before splurging on them.

This goes doubly for trade skills. If you are dead set on getting a production trade skill instead of two of the more valuable gathering ones, remember that not everything your trainer offers is worth buying. While it might be nice to have a long list of shirts and dresses to produce as a tailor, they offer very little in the way of revenue. Also keep in mind that, generally, whatever items you make at lower levels will not likely sell for more money than you could have made by simply selling the materials you used to make them. For this reason, two gathering skills are recommended.

Auction House
The Auction House (AH) is a brilliant way of making money if you know the tricks on how to do it. The trick with the AH is to buy things cheap and to sell them high, or even better to get Items from drops then sell them on the Auction House.

There are various websites (wowmatrix.com) that have helpful add-ons that will help you sell your items in the auction house more easily.

Some of the best things that can be sold in the auction house are special items or "Pets" that can only be found in certain areas. For example, the Savory Deviate Delight recipe can only be found in Horde areas, and for this reason sells really really well on the Alliance AHs.

Here are some tips to always remember when your using the Auction House:

Buying
Always check each of the prices of the item, and look over a spread of several days. This is not so major on small items but anything that you are spending hundreds of gold on you need to check prices carefully. It is also a good idea to check a website such as Allakhazam, Goblin Workshop, or Wowhead to see what an item normally sells for.
Make sure you have an idea of how much you should be spending on an item. The best bet is to ask other players who already have this item, or ask members of your guild. This can prevent you getting ripped off.
Selling

1. Check the prices of other auctions of the same item as yours, make sure that you are not pricing way above the others; the best bet is to aim higher if you know it will sell before it expires, or at the same price or lower if there is lots of competition.
2. Know the price of your items and how much they are worth; make sure you check this as the more accurate the price, the more sales you will get.
3. Be patient. If you are trying to sell an item for a large amount of money you might have to post it for several days in a row, or post it then wait a week and post it again.
4. To close, I wish you luck with your Auction House buying and selling. If you can improve your AH skills, it is an exceptional way to make tons of money; however, if you are inexperienced, it can be a serious money drain.

Auctioneer
Auctioneer is an addon for WoW that assists players in the auction house by automatically gathering price information and displaying statistical information about prices:

The auction house window is augmented with additional functionality to search current auctions for cheap deals and buyouts
Using the BottomScanner module of Auctioneer, it is possible to have an alert displayed when an unusually cheap item is listed in the AH -- the item can then be bought for resale or disenchanting
Several convenience functions for searching, listing items and displaying past transactions have been added
All statistical data, and some additional information such as vendor prices, the stack size for an item, and what trade skills it is used in is displayed in an extension to the standard item tooltip in-game.
Many players find Auctioneer to be an invaluable addition to WoW with regards to trading on the auction house. This is true especially for inexperienced players who can't correctly judge the value of an item yet. Also, since Auctioneer uses data collected on the specific realm the player is on, it is more reliable with regards to the current market situation than databases such as Allakhazam and Thottbot, which base their pricing information on global market data.

Vendors
Although you usually don't want to buy items to sell from vendor, some items can be sold for much more than you pay for them from the vendor. Keep an eye out for these types of items. A key example of this is the Gnomish Lighthouse vendor in Azshara, who sells the Deepdive Helmet Schematic for 36s. Only one may be purchased at a time, but many Engineers will pay upwards of 1g for this schematic.

Some players even turn this into their profession by systematically "plundering" vendors in the game world and then selling the items on the auction house at a significant markup. The reason why this works (even for items which are on unlimited supply at vendors) is, that many players don't want to spend time travelling to specific vendors to get hold of a recipe or skill book. They rather pay a slightly higher price at their local auction house. In some sense, they use the auction house as a "super market" or "convenience store". So it is completely reasonable and legitimate to be the supplier for this concenience store and make money out of it.

Begging
Everyone hates beggars, but at times... if you find the right person, it can work. But be careful, It can hurt your reputation in the marketplace.

If you don't care about etiquette, you can make a small amount of money this way, but it isn't as efficient as the regular (and respectable) ways of making money.

Dancing
Believe it or not, some characters make money from tips they get while dancing (see /dance under Slash Commands). This usually only works if you have a Human, Night Elf, or Blood Elf female and have unequipped everything (stripped down to your underwear).

Like begging, this practice can irritate people and hurt your reputation. It isn't as bad a breach of etiquette, but like begging, the returns are not that great.

Dueling
This is a harder way to make money but it might work in Ironforge, Ogrimmar, etc. Start by telling a lvl 30-35 that if he beats you in a duel you will give him 30 gold but if you beat him he has to give you 4 gold. This is a slow way of making money (and often the other player won't cough up the money anyway) but I've heard of people getting upwards of 50g over several days in Ironforge.

Enchanting
Selling enchants can make some money, but usually only when you have very high level (over 225) enchants and only the most sought after ones (weapon enchants and large attribute bonus enchants), so it isn't really recommended as a good early money making source.

Disenchanting
If you farm lots of magical items you can't sell, you can convert them to valuable ingredients that other enchanters will buy (usually at the Auction House). It can often be lucrative to check the auction house for green items with unpopular suffixes, such as "of the Gorilla," with low starting bids. These items usually disenchant into the same ingredients as equal items with more desireable attributes and can be had for a bargain price in comparison. The ingredients obtained from disenchanting these items are often worth more than you'll pay for the item itself in the auction house.

Lockpicking
Rogues can make some money by picking locks for people and getting tips. Not a great revenue source, but a decent one to supplement multiple strategies for making money. Generally, the usual lockpicking tip is between 10 silver to 1 gold, the most common being 50 silver. Sometimes, you can get lucky and have someone tip up to 5 gold for lockpicking several (or even just one) boxes. It's always beneficial for a rogue spending time doing repairing, training, etc. in a city to put up a lockpicking advertisement on the trade channel. Just make sure you let the buyers decide the price and that your lockpicking level is high enough.

Magical Items
Magical items are almost always worth something to vendors, but should generally be saved and sold at the auction house.

Vendor Trash
Any item with a grey name is considered Vendor Trash or Poor quality. White items are used in Tradeskills or as spell reagents, so you may want to check some web sites (as listed above in the AH section) to see if they're worth more than the vendor price. Keep your eyes out for regular quality weapons, as even the worst of these tend to sell for several silver. Also, white (or even grey) shoulder armor under level 20 sells regularly on the auction house, mainly because there is nothing better available at that level.

Unless low quality items have some known quest use or are coveted by other players, you should try to sell it as soon as possible to create bag space. ALWAYS (or almost always, see above exceptions) keep things like cloth, leather, herbs, or large stacks of white/gray items over other loot when you have to decide what to keep when your bags get full. It might be worth your while to invest in larger bags (8-10 slot), especially if you know a tailor.

Quests
Nearly all quests offer cash or items as a reward, and often both. While completing quests shouldn't be your main form of wealth generation, it is something you are going to do anyway. The key to making the most of quests is picking your reward items wisely. Don't always pick the item that most fits your class - if it isn't demonstrably better than your current item, instead go for whatever reward sells for the greatest amount to the vendor. You can use Thottbot to check each item's value individually, download a UI mod such as Auctioneer to display it in the tooltip, or you can follow the general guidelines for equipment value laid out later in this guide.

Twink Items
Many players who already have higher level characters create alts that they level to a certain point and then stop. Often, these twinks are level 18-19, 28-29, 38-39, etc. for the purpose of going to battlegrounds at the top of their tiers and kicking butt. Since these twinked characters are owned by higher level players with lots of cash, they usually outfit them with the best gear available at their level. Thus, items that require level 17-19, level 27-29, or any other items around this level, with good stats or dps, often sell for much higher prices than they normally would. This is especially true on an older server.

Trade Skills (Professions)
Gathering
Mining and skinning are good money professions. From the moment you can smelt copper, you can make good money selling stacks of the bars in the auction house - although you should make sure to check the relative prices of ore versus bars before smelting, since depending on the server economy and the time of week, low level ores may sell for up to double the price of the equivalent bars. As your skill increases, so does your earning potential. The only gathering profession that can come close to the miner in raw earning potential is the skinner. A skinner starts by collecting relatively worthless ruined leather scraps, but soon moves on to light leather, which can be sold for a good profit. Higher grades of leather yield higher profits, just as higher grades of metal are more valuable. A skinner/miner has potent earning power through the auction house, but often runs out of inventory space.

Herbalism is also a good source of money. Unlike ore which is found only in rocky areas, herbs can be found in many places, depending on the exact plant. The more the gather, the better you can predict where to look for it. Be sure to check on the auction house for what herbs are in demand for a high value; often a lower level one is very valuable, so you can farm an area you already know for quick money.

Production/Crafting
Usually, you'll want to produce Uncommon or better quality items to sell. Look in the Auction House for items that sell for good prices, but don't have many of people selling them, which usually drives down the price.

Common item recipes to look for:

Blacksmithing
Plans: Iron Shield Spike (drop)
Plans: Steel Weapon Chain (drop)
Plans: Iron Counterweight (drop)
These items sell well for decent money, even though they are common quality items. Beware, these recipes can be pricey if you buy them, so try to get a bargain and ask around to see if you are getting a good price.

Sometimes you can make money by making items with ingredients supplied by other players who give you a tip to make the item for them. Not a reliable source at low levels, but a good supplemental income source at higher levels with good recipes.

Blacksmiths: watch the prices for "Needed by" items such as the metal rods used by enchanters, and compare the price for the raw materials. For example, a Golden Rod requires

There's a good chance you can buy the raw materials for 25% - 75% of the going rate of the finished item, or mine them for free. The fee for an 8 hour auction is only 1 silver, so you can afford to re-auction rods that don't sell the first time.

Blood Elves

The Blood Elves of Azeroth have joined the Horde in the Burning Crusadeexpansion, seeking to reunite with Prince Kael'thas Sunstrider in Outland. They have since reclaimed their capital of Silvermoon City, situated in Eversong Woods. Lor'themar Theron led them in Kael'thas's absence. Now, having discovered Kael'thas's true objective to summon Kil'jaeden to the world, the blood elves of Silvermoon have abandoned him. Lor'themar Theron, Halduron Brightwing and Grand Magister Rommath have been presiding over Silvermoon in the absence of any officially appointed leader.

Troll

The Trolls (Darkspear Trolls) are a tribe of jungle trolls. Members

of the tribe belong to the Darkspear Trolls faction of the Horde.

During Thrall’s exodus from Lordaeron, the Horde rescued the Darkspear tribe of jungle trolls from the mysterious Sea Witch. The Darkspear tribe owed Thrall and the orcs a great debt and so allied themselves with the Horde in gratitude. Their relationship with the noble orcs and tauren has begun to change the Darkspear trolls’ savage natures. Darkspear trolls, however, deny their dark legacy. The Horde has taught them camaraderie, restraint and, to a lesser extent, kindness.

The Orcs (aka Orcdom) are one of the most common races of Azeroth. Born on the world of Draenor, the orcs were brought to Azeroth through the dimensional gateway known as the Dark Portal and waged war on the humans while under the influence of the Burning Legion.

The orcs once cultivated a noble, shamanistic society on Draenor. Tragically, the proud orc clans were corrupted by the Burning Legion and used as pawns in the Legion's invasion of Azeroth. The orcs managed to rebel, however, and they were ultimately able to help turn the tide against their demon masters. Led by the Warchief Thrall, the orcs have reclaimed their strength and honor. The orcs moved from the Eastern Kingdoms toKalimdor, and there they founded the nation of Durotar.

Now, the orcs stand ready to fight not for the sake of conquest, but for their very right of survival in their adopted world.

Undead

They are currently allied with the Horde, but in an alliance of convenience only. The Forsaken are led by the Banshee Queen, Sylvanas Windrunner, the former Ranger-General of Quel'Thalas. Their capital is the Undercity, in the royal catacombs beneath the ruins of the City of Lordaeron. Undercity is the faction for the playable Forsaken in-game.

Tauren

Tauren are huge nomadic creatures who live on the grassy, open plains of Mulgore in Central Kalimdor. Tauren are large, muscular humanoids and bovine in appearance, complete with hooves and horns. They stand anywhere from six and a half to nine feet tall and weigh anywhere from 400 to 700 pounds. Their immense bodies are covered with fine, short fur that ranges in color from black to gray to white to red to brown to tan and any mottled combinations or variations thereof. After generations of nomadic existence, the tauren have recently made permanent settlements in Mulgore and the Barrens.

[INTRO]About 21,000 years ago, Sargeras, the Destroyer of Worlds, approached the eredar race, telling them that he was impressed by their work. He offered the three leaders of the eredar —Archimonde, Kil'jaeden, and Velen — untold power in exchange for their loyalty. Velen then had a vision dictating the creation of the Burning Legion and its aftermath. He warned Kil'jaeden and Archimonde about this but they did not care, instead thinking of the power they could gain, and accepted Sargeras' offer. Many willing Eredar were transformed, but a faction of uncorruptederedar led by Velen fled their homeworld of Argus, calling themselves the "draenei" ("the Exiled Ones"). For thousands of years, they wandered the universe exploring dozens of worlds. Each time they found a home, however, the Burning Legion would be upon them. After traveling through much of the cosmos, they finally found a safe world which they called Draenor ("Exile's Refuge"). At first, they shared a peaceful existence with the native orcs and traded with them. They followed the path of the Holy Light of Creation, as shown to them by the naaru. Unfortunately, Kil'jaeden eventually discovered the refuge. He chose to stay in the background and instead used the combat-driven and honor-seeking orcs, whom he manipulated, to do his work. As an act of vengeance for their actions on Argus, Kil'jaeden ordered the draenei to be exterminated by the orcs through his student, the warlock Gul'dan.

[CULTURE]The draenei culture is centered around two things: the Holy Light of Creation and magic. The first is the result of their unique relationship with the naaru, while the second is the path that the eredar have always followed. As a result, draenei usually choose religious professions, such as priests or paladins, or magical ones, such as the mage. A few have started to follow the path of the shaman under the guidance of Farseer Nobundo.

Gnomes

[INTRO]Gnomes are a diminutive, wiry race of tinkers who live underground. In the Second War, they built vehicles and gadgets for the Alliance — submarines and flying machines — to combat theHorde. They are great mechanics and inventors, and are renowned for their knowledge and eccentric natures. The gnomes had a city, Gnomeregan, built into Ironforge Mountain; but invading troggs destroyed it and slaughtered its citizens. Many survivors moved into Khaz Modan and now live with the Ironforge dwarves, and a few traveled with their dwarven friends to Kalimdor. The gnomes are still reeling from the destruction of their home city and are loath to leave the safety of the dwarven tunnels. Most gnomes on Kalimdor remain secluded in Bael Modan. Even after the decimation of their race and the destruction of their city, gnomes are an amiable and kindhearted lot. They make and keep friends easily; others find disliking a gnome to be difficult. Gnomes are long-lived and take a fatherly approach to other races, particularly humans. Gnome society is loosely organized. Most live in Khaz Modan and mix freely with the dwarves, sending representatives to speak to the dwarven king on their behalf. Those few gnomes who traveled to Kalimdor live in a similar fashion in Bael Modan. Gnomes are gifted tinkers. They have a penchant for creating radical technology and innovative designs. They often work together with Ironforge dwarves, developing the blueprints and concepts from which the dwarf smiths draw their inspiration.

The "Ironforge dwarf" class indicates that an Ironforge dwarf not only has a greater understanding of the dwarven heritage, but also dwarven fighting styles and the innate abilities that dwarves can harness with sufficient training.

[BACKGROUND]The dwarves of Ironforge are a proud, stern and determined people with streaks of kindness hidden under the gruff exteriors of their sturdy frames. Their love for battle, invention and exploration impels them ever forward to discover and unearth the mysteries of their heritage, educating them further about those who first created the dwarven race. Only recently have the dwarves discovered the legacy of their ancient progenitors, the Titans. As the dwarves begin to delve deeper into the mysteries of their past, they also begin to uncover deeper enigmas. Still, they keep to the forges and workshops, ever innovating and creating new and more effective ways to destroy.

Night Elves

The night elves, or kaldorei ("Children of the Stars" in their native tongue of Darnassian), have a long and fascinating history. Native to the western continent of Kalimdor, the night elves ended a long period of seclusion at the end of the Third War and became members of the Alliance.

[INTRO]The kaldorei are an ancient and reclusive race born during the waking of the world. Their ancient heritage has shaped them into a devoted warrior race, with a reverence for nature and animistic mystical forces. The kaldorei are practical but superstitious, and often a paradox. They are a people possessed with a deep spiritual passion and a desire to find solace. In the time before, the kaldorei were immortal. Their powerful magic was recklessly unleashed by thequel’dorei, who believed they were superior to other kaldorei and practiced magics far beyond the considered norm. This careless use of magic may have allowed the Burning Legion to invade the world, and finally led to a catastrophic battle known as theWar of the Ancients. This battle changed the face of Azeroth for all time, and resulted in the creation of the continents of the world, tearing the land apart and forming the vast nexus of energy at the center of the ocean known as the Maelstrom. The night elves are honorable to a fault, and they are a just and sometimes compassionate people. Still, they do not trust many of the lesser races of the world, whom they see as foolish and too short-lived to recall the mistakes they made in the past. Many of the night elves consider it their duty to ensure the safety and balance of the world. Because of this perceived air of superiority, many of the younger races mistrust the night elves, if not for their shadowy magic then for their aloof and judging demeanour.

[HISTORY]At the beginning of the world, now known as Azeroth, the god-like Titans created a magical well — dubbed the Well of Eternity by the kaldorei, or night elves. Over time it became the source of their power, wisdom, and immortality. This immense source of mystical energy shone like a beacon throughout the Twisting Nether, eventually claiming the attention of Sargeras, the Dark Titan, destroyer of worlds, and he sought to claim its power as his own.

Human Race

The humans of Stormwind are the one of the playable Alliance races in World of Warcraft. They are a resilient breed, having survived an invasion by the savage orcs during the First War. During the Second War, the armies of Stormwind rallied with the Alliance of Lordaeronto reclaim their homeland of Azeroth. After the success of the Second War, Stormwind was rebuilt and human civilization began to flourish once again throughout the southlands.

[HISTORY]The noble humans of Stormwind are a proud, tenacious race. They bravely fought the orcish Horde for generations as the patrons of the Grand Alliance. Just as they thought peace had at last settled over their war-torn kingdoms, an even darker shadow descended upon the world. The undead Scourge unleashed a foul plague of death upon humanity and succeeded in decimating the northern human kingdom of Lordaeron. The few humans who survived fled south to the protection of Stormwind.
